Security Summit in Maine
what’s happening?
Maine residents have a plentiful supply of water, but there are growing threats to the water’s quality and quantity. To effectively address those threats, community members and local groups are sharing information and coordinating efforts to protect their water. Together, they are hosting the Water Security Summit to raise awareness of various threats, explore all options to protect water in our communities, and inspire action.
The Summit will address problems and solutions on:
- Penobscot River case / state taking of tribal stewardship
- Nestle water mining and export
- Juniper Ridge mega-landfill
- Industrial scale salmon farming
- Bald Mountain open-pit mining
- East/West (Utility) Corridor
