The Environmental Justice Network Ireland is calling on councils and decision makers to recognise the rights of nature.

EJNI is a network of activists, NGOs, lawyers, and academics who aim to develop the rights of nature conversation on the island of Ireland.

In a new video launched on Friday they lay out their case for people and and governing bodies to turn away from a human centred approach to how we treat the planet.

This new way of thinking has already been adopted in countries including Ecuador and New Zealand.

EJNI say it means a shift in our relationship with nature “from one of dominance to one of sharing, caring, respect and interdependency.”
