Move to Amend put out this announcement about an event today (July 21, 2021):
Wednesday, July 21, Move to Amend National Director and co-founder Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap will be part of an important discussion hosted by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).
We hope you can join the event!
You are invited to participate in an INTERVIEW WITH JOEL BAKAN, producer of the new film THE NEW CORPORATION: THE UNFORTUNATELY NECESSARY SEQUEL.
Zoom in at 7pm eastern/4pm pacific on Wednesday, July 21st.
Here is the link to join the discussion with Joel.
Then you are ALSO invited to this Zoom PANEL DISCUSSION:
“50 years is enough! Time to Challenge Corporate Power”
a distinguished Women, Money & Democracy (W$D) Committee panel
8pm eastern/5pm pacific
On Wednesday’s Panel you’ll meet again the WILPF scholars, researchers, and writers Virginia Rasmussen, Jan Edwards and Jim Allison — authors of persuasive educational materials like our Corporate Study Course (“Challenge Corporate Power: Assert The People’s Rights”), our Timeline of Corporate Constitutional Rights, and several plays that entertain while educating and organizing. These materials have been used by friends and allies for decades and are still relevant, unfortunately.
We’ll hear how they came to this work, their inspiration from Richard Grossman and POCLAD, and how they measure the impact their work has had.
We’ll also hear from some allies … about new solutions to the efforts to challenge corporate power. Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap from Move To Amend will be on hand to describe their legislative and lobbying efforts.
We’ll talk about other solutions too… from various perspectives, including reforming monetary policy, public banking, cooperative business models, and anti-corruption work.
Hopefully YOU’LL have ideas to contribute or questions to raise.
Here again is the LINK to register for BOTH the Joel Bakan interview AND the Panel Discussion.
(Join at any time from 7pm eastern/4pm pacific, through 9:30pm eastern/6:30pm pacific on this Wednesday, July 21st)
WILPF US (Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom US Section) has a long history of working to educate and organize to challenge corporate power. They have been connecting human rights and economic justice to the quest for peace since our founding in 1915.
WILPF’s national issue committee, “Corporations v Democracy” (now “Women, Money & Democracy”) has made this work a priority since the late 1990s. WILPF is a founding coalition partner of Move to Amend.
You can find more about the National Committee’s work here.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
