Katie Lyon writes this about the Lane County Community Rights activist: Michelle Holman’s activism began many years ago at the University of Oregon during the Vietnam War. Today she is founder of Community Rights Lane County, a nonprofit group that’s focused on social justice and the environment. The group has urged lawmakers to ban the aerial spraying of herbicides in Lane County, some of which occurs in the rural area of Deadwood where Holman lives. The group defines community rights as the right of residents to make policy changes that improve their communities. The group meets monthly.
