Thomas Linzey, Executive Director of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, gave a speech at the Colorado Community Rights Network’s State Assembly on August 30, 2014. Linzey spoke about the challenges and successes of local communities asserting their rights to local governance. The Colorado Community Rights Network helps communities create their own local laws to define and assert their inalienable rights to health, safety, welfare, local self-governance and the rights of nature to exist and thrive over corporate power to exploit, profit and harm communities and the environments in which they exist. The Colorado Community Rights Network authored and sponsored the Colorado Community Rights Amendment which, if passed, would recognize the inherent right and authority of local community self-government.
