The Franklin County Board of Elections committed a travesty last week when it refused to put a citizen initiative that was duly approved by Columbus City Council, including two city attorneys, on the November ballot. During the past year, Ohio volunteers collected more than 12,000 valid signatures from residents who live in Columbus to place an ordinance on the November ballot that will go a long way to protect the city from being required to allow the oil and gas industry to dispose of its radioactive waste in the city’s watershed, and on the soil within city limits, with no meaningful accountability.
