At the Lane County Board of Commissioners’ Jan. 9 meeting, four members indicated that they supported scheduling a work session to consider referring legislation to the November ballot based on ordinances submitted to the board by proponents; Chairman Jay Bozievich committed to scheduling such a session.

This legislation includes the Lane County Freedom from Aerial Spraying of Herbicides Bill of Rights Ordinance, and the Lane County Community Self-Government Ordinance. Referral of these ordinances would provide an alternate route to the ballot — they are identical to initiative measures that have been prevented from reaching the ballot because of legal technicalities.

Proponents were heartened to hear that the board was willing to take this first step toward responding to the will of the citizenry. MORE…
